My name is Alexander Cheves. My nickname is Beastly. My pronouns are he/him/his.
I am a sex writer, educator, and worker. My forthcoming book, My Love Is a Beast: Confessions, will be available from Unbound Edition Press on October 12, 2021. Pre-order here.
I currently run a sex column in print editions of Out Magazine. My work has appeared in VICE, Them, Plus, The Body, Hornet Stories, Into, and various other publications. In 2016, I launched the popular sex-ed column “Sexy Beast” in The Advocate.
In early 2021, I came out publicly as a sex worker to bring awareness to the spate of anti-sex worker legislations in recent years — and the censorship that has targeted and harmed people in this profession.
I’m 5’9″, brown and brown, half-Deaf, and I usually call myself “gay,” though I’m not always sure this is the best word for me. I sometimes call myself “pansexual,” “queer,” or “sexually fluid.” I connect with gay male culture, particularly gay nightlife.
This blog is the digital version of what I do almost every day: talk to people about sex — particularly the sex they don’t feel comfortable talking about with anyone else. I’m a stigmaphile — a kink-positive, taboo-friendly, sex-positive person who tries to always find the nuanced perspective over the simple one. I believe in a progressive, harm-reduction approach in all areas of public health. There’s no such thing as “good shame” — shame is always toxic and ineffective.
Outside sex, my passions revolve around tattoos, art, sociology, weightlifting, philosophy, history, music, and literature.
