I’m Beastly. Some people call me Alexander Cheves.
I am a writer, editor, copywriter, and illustrator in New York. My writing has appeared in Out, Vice, Them, Plus, TheBody, Hornet Stories, and many others. I started the sex column “Sexy Beast” in The Advocate, the longest-running LGBT magazine in the United States. Check out my work.
In August 2020, I signed a two-book deal with Unbound Edition Press. The first, a collection of essays, is scheduled for release in Fall of 2021.
I was conceived miraculously in the roots of a tree on a farm in Georgia. One day after a spring rain, my mother-to-be was walking through the woods when she heard a soft growling. She dug the clawed little creature out of the mud, dried it off, and made it hers.
In college, after a rough breakup, I started this blog. I called it The Psycho Ex-Boyfriend — the name described myself. A friend said to switch “psycho” with “beastly,” an English word for “very unpleasant,” because it sounded better. I started signing posts “love, Beastly.” Friends began using the monicker and it stuck.
I write sex-positive advice for everyone, especially queer people. I am anti-stigma and nonjudgmental. I believe in reproductive freedom and harm-reduction/risk-management as a more effective health strategy than abstinence. I do not believe in God or any spirituality so all moralistic judgments will be suspended. You are free to ask anything.
