My nickname to friends and lovers is Beastly. My real name is Alexander Cheves.
I’m a writer, author, and sex educator. My forthcoming book, My Love Is a Beast: Confessions, will be available from Unbound Edition Press in October 2021, followed by a poetry collection in 2023.
I currently run a sex column in the print edition of Out Magazine. My work has appeared in VICE, Them, Plus, The Body, Hornet Stories, Into, and many other publications. In 2016, I launched the popular sex-ed column “Sexy Beast” in The Advocate, the longest-running LGBTQ magazine in the world.
I write copy for cool brands, most recently Nasty Pig, and have created content for Fort Troff, LELO, Lexus, BMW, and more. To see some of my work and contact me for freelance projects, please visit my website.
In early 2021, I chose to come out publicly as a sex worker to bring awareness to the spate of anti-sex worker legislations in recent years — and the internet censorship that has targeted and harmed people in this profession. As a professional companion, my work is focused on connection, intimacy, and healing.
I’m 5’9″, brown and brown, half-Deaf, and my pronouns are he/him/his. I usually call myself “gay,” though I’m not always sure this is the right word for me. I’ve been known to use the words “pansexual,” “queer,” and “fluid” in the past. In most cases, I avoid labeling myself altogether. I connect with gay male culture, particularly our affinity for good nightlife.
This blog is the digital equivalent of what I do almost every day: talk to people about sex — particularly the sex they don’t feel comfortable talking about with anyone else. I’m a stigmaphile — a kink-positive, taboo-friendly, sex-positive person who tries to always find the nuanced perspective over the simple one. I believe in a progressive, harm-reduction approach in all areas of sex and public health. There’s no such thing as “good shame” — shame is a sickness. It is always toxic and ineffective.
Outside of sex, my passions revolve around tattoos, art, sociology, weightlifting, biology, philosophy, history, music, nightlife, and American literature.
